Constantine is a 2005 film of which the plot is set around the character John Constantine who performs exorcisms on people possessed by demons, demons start coming into the world and Constantine finds out he has terminal lung cancer so he feels he has nothing to lose, he then decides to help a detective find out why her twin sister committed suicide.
Constantine is a big budget film with lots of impressive special effects using CGI and a high profile cast starring: Keanu Reeves, Rachel Weisz and Shia LeBeouf.
The film relies on special effects to be the main sell of the film.
Apparitions is similar, with Martin Shaw playing the main character (Father Jacob) who also exorcises people possessed but he is not as strong as The Constantine character portrayed by Keanue Reeves and he does not use weapons to send back demons.
He instead uses crosses to excoriate a man who steals peoples skin and reads lines from the bible.
Another way that Apparitions differs from Constantine is that the BBC don't have as big a budget to spend and in one early scene there is a corpse that has no skin which a dummy has been used instead of CGI.
The concepts are similar but they are delivered in different ways; one being a film the other a two part drama.
